Dermo-
fasciectomy

What is dermofasciectomy?
Dermofasciectomy is the surgical excision of diseased dupuytren's tissue along with some or all of the overlying skin. The skin then requires a skin graft to close the wound.

When is dermofasciectomy required?
Dermofasciectomy is usually reserved for more severe cases of dupuytren's disease, where the skin is heavily involved with dupuytren's or in redo cases in which the hand is already scarred.

Where will the skin graft be taken from?
This depends on the size of the skin defect at the end of surgery. Whenever possible I take the skin graft from the same arm (for instance the elbow crease or upper inner arm where there is little or no hair). However for larger defects groin skin might be required, where more can be taken and the scar is well hidden. A full thickness skin graft is used (i.e. the whole thickness of the skin is taken) which leaves a straight line scar from where it is taken from.
